Haitian Earthquake

If this is news to you, its sad, but its better to find out late than not at all. A 7.0 earthquake ripped through Haiti last week Tuesday and things are pretty horrible there. Haiti is already the poorest country in the Western hemisphere and now being struck with a natural disaster such as this is just sad.

Official estimates from the region say that approximately 3 million people have been affected by this disaster and that somewhere between 45,00 to 50,000 people may have died as a result of the earthquake.

Here are some pics of the Haitian earthquake :

I‘d add more, but Wordpress is messing up. Its impressive how the world has responded though, TV, radio, all over the Internet and Facebook are throngs of organizations and grassroots movements on a mission to help Haiti. Hell even Mafia Wars and Cafe World have “Help Haiti” intiatives.

Doctors Without Borders is one of the organizations in the best position to provide critical medical care to those affected by this disaster. You can help out too by donating :

The lovely Alicia Keys has an initiative  :  http://www.aliciakeys.com/us/news/haiti-relief

So does Digicel : http://www.facebook.com/helphaiti?ref=mf

Ofcourse there are stupid groups like these :

Lets Get 1,000,000 People On Facebook To Help Haiti.

For every person that joins I will donate 25 cents to help Haiti

For Each Member Who Joins I Will Donate $0.05 to Haiti Earthquake Victims

Which most likely do nothing. More seriously there are a number of fake organizations fronting to help Haiti but are just actually scams. Always be careful to verify the authenticity of the organization when donating, and last but not least, be more thankful for your life and what you have and got from it thus far.
