Alternate Cultural Hegemony
I stood there in a party Friday night, singing along to every rap/rock song that played, and then it hit me.
What if Africa was the “America” of the world? An alternate cultural hegemony? What if Africa had America’s GDP, cultural influence and virtually dominated the world militarily? What if the most publicized celebrities and music were all African?
Funny, we all would have then been familiar with and only worship African shit. For example “Hannah Montana” would have been “Hannah Mugabe”.
Don’t for a second ever think that you’re only into American stuff (movies, fashion, music, culture and sub-cultures) because its “cool”. Its primarily because its dominant, its the cultural hegemony of the world, and your entire definition of “cool” comes under its influence as well.

I see lot’s of possibilities.:-)We would be listening to some nice african tunes(African music has plenty of different genres)intead of american country music,lol. ‘Hannah Mugabe’ does not have a nice ring to it though, think I would preffer ‘Hannah Mandela’.:-) But you are right, American stuff (music,movies,fashion,art) is truely dominant and will remain so for a long time.
