Icefrog Leaves Dota-Allstars.com
The latest news out of the DotA community is that Icefrog is leaving the dota-allstars.com website.
A lot of people have been mixing that statement up with “Icefrog is no longer updating the DotA map”, but he never said that.
The latest post on his blog titled DotA Website News cites “differences” as his reason for leaving the site.
Other blogs and fanboys are devastated for whatever reason. They are the kind of people who respond to threads like these saying that “Icefrog is God”, etc (fricking retards).
I’m pretty certain the split has something to do with Pendragon_’s (founder of dota-allstars.com) new mission of putting League of Legends into the forefront of the proposed new DotA website.
Out of the blue recently if you’re a member of DotA-Allstars.com you would have received the first issue of the site’s newsletter from Pendragon_ where he did an interview with PMS.Rinoa.
The first part of it was BS, and the rest was about planned sweeping changes of dota-allstars.com plus a lot of self-promotion of League of Legends :
Wow! That’s pretty exciting. So what’s in store for the future of DotA-Allstars.com?
I’m glad you asked, because this is a pretty exciting time for me, and for DotA-Allstars.com. For the last year or so, I haven’t been able to put the amount of time into the website and community that I’d have liked to. Recently, however, I’ve sat down and evaluated what’s important to me in life, and I’ve realized that I miss the work that I’ve done on the DotA website, and with the DotA community, and I’ve decided that I need to make time for what’s important to me.
The first thing I did is bought 23 brand-new servers for the website which means the slow-website problem that we’ve had is in the past! I also now have a team of two full-time web programmers, and one web-designer working on rebuilding the entire DotA site from scratch. Some of the great stuff that we’re working on includes:
- A Complete redesign of the entire website, which will make things faster – and hopefully a little easier on the eyes!
- A DotA patcher, that will automatically update to the latest version, show you the changelog, and then launch Warcraft III, or your favorite DotA helper programs
- A brand new guide system designed to make guides easier to write, and easier to find
- A reputation system, to encourage contribution and useful posting
- A redesign of the replay system, including being able to tie replays to your account
- A Learning Center that has all the information you’d ever want to know about DotA, including guides for new players
- A portal for competitive DotA news, coverage, events, announcements, etc. Including player and team profiles
- RSS & E-Mail subscriptions, and a monthly newsletter, to keep you constantly updated with important information
League of Legends has made quite a name for itself in the Media and such but not a lot of people know that you are involved with it, can you tell us a little more about it?
Well, I started working with Riot Games in 2008 after meeting Guinsoo in Vegas. After the first time visiting the Riot in Los Angeles, and seeing what they were working on – I was hooked. Their first game, League of Legends, was something that I myself as a DotA player had wanted someone to do for quite some time. It’s a game that’s similar to DotA, but without the limitations of Warcraft III and Battle.net.
It only took a few meetings with the founders of Riot to realize that they understood the importance of community in an organization, and really wanted to revolutionize community in the gaming world. From then on, it was clear to me what I had to do – I joined Riot because I want to build a strong global community of passionate gamers using what I learned from my experience building and growing DotA-Allstars.com
League of Legends itself borrows the most fun elements of DotA, and makes them much more accessible, and then wraps them in built-from-scratch multiplayer services and support, including matchmaking, stat tracking, teams & clans, etc. For more information about League of Legends, you can get more information about League of Legends at:

So maybe in Pendragon_’s new found quests of revamping the site and devoting more time to League of Legends, he dissed Icefrog or something and he didn’t like that and left
Either that or the proposed changes of the 6.60 map are becoming so obviously retarded that someone from dota-allstars.com told him that he and his map sucks and its going to be an epic fail and he didn’t like that and left.
OR the source of all those beta leaks which Icefrog has stated multiple times that he doesn’t like is from dota-allstars.com and he’s leaving because of that.
OR Icefrog thinks Pendragon_ and his LoL game is indeed LOL and stupid and prefers to do his own thing.
Of course we may never really know the real answer.
So far Icefrog has announced he is going to start a new site for DotA-Allstars, so we’ll just have to wait and see who “wins” this.
