Trinidad Police use Tear Gas, Violence on Rioting Laventille Residents
The following standoff/riot occurred in Laventille, Trinidad after police officers allegedly kidnapped 18-year-old Trevlon Harry from Picton Road and took him to an area occupied by “rival gangs” who beat him in front of the officers who did nothing about it.

Well, they shouldn’t have kidnapped the guy and did what they did, that sounds pretty Denzel Washinton in “Training Day“. They should have just carried him back to the station and interrogated him like anyone else.
But wait now, lets all be honest with ourselves. Laventille is the ghetto. Its the community that the government actually tried to build a wall around for the fifth Summit of the Americas.
If you were to have car problems anywhere in the vicinity of Laventille, pray and run for your life.
You can pretty much take anything out on credit if you’re living in Laventille, not pay your installments and have no fear of your things being repossessed (unless debt collectors employ the services of Chuck Norris and Jason Statham).
You can also just not pay your electric bill either for the same reason.
Its common knowledge that just an innocent walk into certain areas of Laventille can get you killed, robbed or maimed in some way.
Not to mention the area is a crime hotbed of T&T. Its like the Red Light District of guns, drugs, murders and just general crime.
Recently, community leader/gang leader, Sean Francis was killed after being shot some 50 times in the back of the head and neck
I’m not generalizing and saying that because of the crime there that residents there should be treated like animals. I am however saying they should be treated like animals when they throw rocks at police officers, verbally threaten their lives and throw garbage in the roads and set it on fire (all of this actually happened).
By treat like animals I mean either mass arrests or good old fashioned mass-tasering, using the baton or K-9 police dogs ; going all out.
That picture of the police officer choking someone is obviously an extreme use of force and he should be disciplined, but the general behaviour of those people is totally unacceptable and they should have been atleast arrested. Its just hilarious that they’re on the TV trying to make themselves look like victims and the country is falling for it.
I really don’t see a problem with them firing shots and using tear gas to ward off 30+ intimidating young men who may be armed themselves (funny that they lied about it though). And I’m totally lost as to why the presenter of this video is sympathetic towards the people there and giving the whole video an angle of “the abusive police officers are bullying the poor law abiding citizens of Laventille” because we all know better.
I don’t know sometimes I think the only “media” that should cover the kind of crazy shit that happens in Trinidad should be Fark
