MSNBC/Fox News Role Reversal
Funny how things have changed. There is surely now a total role reversal between Fox News and MSNBC. 6 months ago I mentioned this would be a possibility if Obama won the election, but I was just joking. But life is now imitating the art of comedy.
Everyone should be aware of how notoriously biased Fox News was during the Bush presidency. Every single pro-Iraq war argument, even in the days where it increasingly became unpopular as American soldiers died everyday to IEDs and no progress was made in finding WMDs, could be found on Fox News. Sean Hannity, the late Tony Snow, Bill O’Reilly, those idiots in the morning, were all the most conservative, pro-Bush people on cable.
Meanwhile MSNBC was like the underground, rebel news network. Keith Olbermann slams Bush every night, Chris Matthews cleverly calls Dick Cheney “Dick” whenever he cans and the whole channel just has an overall anti-Republican, anti-government, anti-Bush aura.
NOW?
MSNBC staunchly supports everything the government does (Obama). Chris Matthews, David Shuster and other reporters ideas of analysis of the Obama presidency center around “what should he do?” “can he do this?” “what dog should he get?” “countdown to the first 100 days” and other kid glove “reporting”. Keith Olbermann to my surprise STILL attacks Bush every night, still counts each day after then President Bush declared mission accomplished in Iraq and still attacks Republicans and conservatives Bill O’Reilly and his new target, Sean Hannity, all night, every night. Untop of that the only stories which seem to bring indignation and fury to Olbermann (like his red-faced, pencil breaking rant against Hillary Clinton) are always about Republicans, conservatives, never about anything Obama did or the Democratic party (excluding Clinton).
The MSNBC evening to primetime lineup got 2 new shows as well : the Rachel Maddow show and the Ed Show. What have they done since Obama won the election? Exposed the fact that he has done a 360 on a lot of his election promises? Or that he is running up the debt at an alarming rate? No. They just continue to attack Republicans everyday.
Every night is like a Democratic party victory dance from 6pm to 10pm. Rachel Maddow carefully sidesteps away from harshly criticizing anything Obama-esque even when guests raise concerns about his policies. Instead Maddow, Olbermann, Matthews and to a lesser extent, Ed Schultz continue to make fun of how the Republican party is seemingly without a leader, how Eric Cantor attended a Britney Spears concert, criticize Rush Limbaugh, laugh at Michael Steele, and basically just smile and grin at anything related to Obama’s performance in office.
Only David Gregory remains as the most independent voice at MSNBC. Dan Abrams was good too, even critical of Obama often, and look at what happened to him.
MSNBC was always pro-Obama from the beginning, but Fox News just completely stopped their pro-government, “criticizing-the-President-is-Anti-American” theme so fast I think I got whiplash on November 6th 2008. Tonight Sean Hannity referred to Robert Gibbs the White House Press Secretary as a tool for propaganda. I can lay my head on a block that he never would have made that comment if John McCain were president today. Apart from him, the tone, body language and chosen stories reported on Fox News these days are largely anti-Obama or atleast skeptical of his policies.
Its funny how bias can ruin the news, and both networks are the most biased news channels I’ve ever seen. If you want real news these days your best bet is CNN or BBC.
