Fifth Summit of the Americas Highlights Day One
(Video found on Yahoo News)
Well there’s the money shot, Barack Obama and the Air Force One in Trinidad, yay yay confetti.
As expected, the entire Summit was overshadowed by the media’s bloodthirsty wish for a “showdown” between Obama and Chavez.
“Good” things coming out of the Summit :
- Trinidad and Tobago didn’t thoroughly embarass itself
- Hugh Chavez and Barack Obama are now homeboys
- Hugo Chavez didn’t pull a Muammuar Qaddafi and embarass himself or the Summit either
- Raul Castro seems to want to break the ice a little between the U.S and Cuba
- With the CIA, Secret Service, FBI, multiple zones and lockdowns, the people of Port-of-Spain are probably the safest they will ever be in their entire lives.
- The Piarco Airport has a new hangar (part of a $60 million upgrade for the Summit)
- Trinidad made the Rachel Maddow Show.
- Barack Obama mentioned the führer Patrick Manning in his speech
- Barack Obama said he “felt at home in Trinidad” as he grew up on an island himself.
- I got a laugh out of seeing the Trinidad Army personnel of the welcoming committee glowing in uncontrollable awe and starstruckness when Obama passed them by.
Well that’s about it so far. I found it particularly odd that neither Patrick Manning nor Maxwell Richards (Prime Minister and President of Trinidad) were not on spot to welcome Obama when he arrived. What the hell could they have been doing?
