The Undisputed Truth

The Truth Shall Set Us Free

The Japanese and Trini Culture

A double whammy of the bizarre. There is apparently a Japanese artist out there called “Barbie Japan” who did a song on the “Bring It Riddim” called “Kanpai Wine”. This is effectively the first ever, Japanese-Chutney song. In the video are frequent displays of the Trinidadian flag, “wineing”, and other…just weird stuff like a guy with a sign over him that says “I Love Winey”.

Also there is the Yosakoi festival which is apparently a Japanese “Carnival” :

The official site of the Yosakoi Festival describes the festival here :

Yosakoi Festival is held for four days from Aug.9 to Aug.12 every year in Kochi, Japan. People dance passionately to the Yosakoi music in Otesuji street, Central Park, Masugata and Obiya-machi with Naruko (Clappers) in their hands. It’s like a Carnival!

Here is a video
In the video and picture we can clearly see various Trinidadian flags,  playing of the Steel Pan, and other Trinidadian elements. Wow, why do the Japanese buy into Caribbean culture so much? We already know they have Jamaican Passa Passa parties, etc., no they’re into Trinidad……..weird..
