Trinidad PM backs embattled finance minister

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad – Trinidad’s prime minister said Wednesday he has confidence in his embattled finance minister despite allegations that she benefited from a government rescue package of troubled CL Financial Ltd.
Lawmakers have accused Karen Nunez-Tesheira of using insider information to pull out some investments and failing to disclose her shares in the conglomerate, which was the beneficiary of a Jan. 30 bailout after high levels of withdrawals rocked its investment bank.
At a brief news conference in Port-of-Spain, Prime Minister Patrick Manning said he has confidence in Nunez-Tesheira and “until something happens otherwise, I will continue to do so.”
